Dental Implants
Bridges and dentures are very effective solutions for missing teeth. It can be very inconvenient to have missing teeth, as you lose some ability to eat and speak, and these dental prosthetics restore both function and appearances.
Another effective solution is dental implants. These are small metal posts that are inserted directly into the jawbone and topped with the tooth replacement, usually a crown. Implants have additional benefits, as they are more stable and long-lasting than bridges or dentures. Additionally, they can prevent bone recession as they stimulate the jaw bone, which bridges and dentures cannot do. If you are looking for quality dental implant placement, you can count on the dentists at our office.

Procedure
Before any work can be done to place dental implants, a consultation will be needed. Your dentist will examine your overall oral health and determine whether or not you have sufficient bone structure to support the implants. If not, a bone graft procedure may be recommended to build it up before the actual implant procedure takes place.
To place dental implants, your dentist will first make a small incision in the gum line over the site of the missing tooth or teeth (one implant can support multiple tooth replacements). The bone underneath will be prepared to receive the implant, and the post will be inserted into place. The gum tissue will then be stitched closed over the site and the implant will be left for approximately four months to allow it time to fuse into the jaw bone. This process is called osseointegration, and once the implant is ready, the artificial tooth/teeth will be attached to it. With good maintenance, implants can last a lifetime.
